A few hours ago, the look of my forum changed subtly. At the same time, the images of users which normally display on each post are now missing. The image is still there if you view the user profile, but it's not displaying on each post.

Your forum was probably upgraded.
The "images of users" are called Avatars and are handled differently in the new version.
The admin must approved all avatars in the new version by doing so in the admin area.
Whats the url to your forum? |

First off, thank you for the upgraded forum options. Many of my users were very pleased with the results.
What's the difference between the "Picture URL" option and the "Avatar" option?
Thanks again.

That was one of the forums I did today.
There is very little difference between a picture of someone and an avatar. Pictures can be any size but avatars are meant to be small icons e.g. 96x96 which provide forum viewers with a visual representation of the poster at a glance.
I'm just going to look at your database for a minute. Back soon. |

There are 189 members with pictures set in their profiles.
I can send you a list of them in Excel or text format if you like? It would make the job easier.
Or
I could add about 100 or maybe 200 avatars to your forum which members would pick themselves. |

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you send me the list in excel, then what do I do with that? |

Forget Excel. I found an easy way to do it.
Avatars should be working on both your forums. If there are broken images, its because the user deleted the image from their webspace or their host is down.
You can easily edit avatars in the admin area by going to Avatar Setup on the right.
If users want any added you will have to add them there.
Let me know if there are any problems with it. |

Thanks, they are back up on my forum now.
Just so I'm clear...you made all existing Picture URLs into Avatars, but all new ones I'll have to do myself by having them sent to me?
Also, when I look at the Avatar section in the Admin area, it says there are currently no avatars listed there. Is this correct?
Thank again, I don't mean to be a pest.

| Dude, you're messing with me now. It looks like I have user pictures back, but users who didn't have a picture in the first place now show a broken link instead of a picture. I tried to edit my avatars now that I know about them, and while that works fine, I can't get rid of all the broken links. Only about 3 of our hundreds of users even have pictures, so whatever you just changed, could you please change it back. Then I can edit the avatars. |

Your users have to upload them to their webspace and supply you with the url.
Once you have their url, you can add the avatar in the admin area.
You should really start a new topic and supply me with your forum url. |
