When checking the Active Users I found that Guest were veiwing forums that are supposed to be for only logged in Members. Below is a copy of the report. Have I set something up wrong? This is the first time I have seen this.

I thought perhaps it was just the archived topics but I don't think so? The example below is why?

I don't see anything above to suggest that.
Which forum in post one is for logged in members only? In post two "Unknown" doesn't mean they are viewing a forum they shouldn't be.

It is the "Unknown" ones now that you have mentioned it. So if it's not showing which browser they are using they are viewing areas they are not supposed to be, but actually can't see them?
Specifically for instance these two:
quote: Unknown Viewing Archived Topic: I don't know about the rest of you..... Feb 05 2005 9:49:03 PM 2 Minutes Guest #8 Unknown Unknown Viewing Archived Topic: I don't know about the rest of you..... Feb 05 2005 9:49:31 PM 2 Minutes
In the second post:
quote: Guest #2 Unknown Unknown Editing Profile Feb 06 2005 01:16:57 AM 2 Minutes
There was another couple a minute or so before but I didn't think about copying and pasting fast enough to catch those. I'm not sure if they were archived threads or not?
I'm confused as when I log out I can't even find or get near those areas. How would they even be able to find a link to those threads?
I have this fear that I am asking a really dumb question here and I'm simply missing something you're trying to tell me?
As always thank you for all your assistance.

Thank you, that clears that up with the exception of how they are even seeing those areas that have archived topics as those forums are hidden for member only viewing areas.

I couldn't find that topic - "I don't know about the rest of you" but I bet its in a forum that isn't protected.
You know that you can prevent any guests from viewing the forum by enabling "require registration" in the admin area. |

Our forum "requires" registration, so when I go to "Active Users" why do I see...
Guest #1 viewing topics on our Forum? They are not supposed to see anything but an offer to register for the forum.

This may not be exactly on topic to this post, but it should be pointed out to the Admins of forums:
To avoid non-members from being able to view the post in a private forum (must be logged in to view forum), make sure you have each individual sub-forum set accordingly, because;
Although you may have a "Private" forum, and you've set the "Required Registration" option to on, in Admin Options, Main Forum Configuration, anyone can view the post within your forums. This is simply done by clicking on one of the "XML" news feeds buttons. Those buttons are located center-bottom of each page within the forums. They are also on the Login Page. So even if your forum requires registration for visitors to view the forum's post, non-registered visitors can read your forum's post. A non-member can view every post within the entire forum from the Login page by using the XML feed buttons.
To stop non-members from being able to see the post within a "private" forum; even one that requires registration; Using the "Edit Forum Properties" tool (the pencil icon located on the far right of each sub-forum), make sure you've set the "Auth Type" to one of the options other than "All Visitors". The "Members Only" setting appears to allow any forum member access to the sub-forum, where as the "Allow Members Only" setting requires that each member be chosen by the Admin. If you're trying to stop some members of your forum from viewing the sub-forum, then the "Allowed Members Only" option is one of the choices for this. The other would be for you to "Password" protect the sub-forum.
Remember, each sub-forum's properties must not be set on "All Visitors" to stop the XML feeds from making the post available to any, and everyone, to read that visits your forum(s). |

There is a difference between Requiring Registration and having a Private forum i.e. protected content.
Forum admins that require registration may still wish to syndicate content to forum members while requiring that members be logged in before they can read or post.
Forum posts in private forums i.e. allowed members list only, password protected, etc. will not appear in xml newsfeeds. |

I've check all over and I'm not able to find anything that allows me to change the sub forums to "allows members only"? |

If you are looking for it in the Admin Options you won't find it there. If you have made sub-forums within a category, on the Main Top Page of the overall forum, where you see all categories and all sub-forums within each, you should see the Pencil Icon to the far right side of the each Sub-Forum's line (along with other icons; like "Lock Forum"; Edit Forum Properties"; "Delete Forum" and a couple more.
If you click the "Pencil Icon" (Edit Forum's Properties), you find what you're looking for on the bottom section of the sub-window that opens.
We are talking about sub-forums, not "Topics", aren't we?
If you still can't see, or find it, post back, I'll try to help you more.
P.S. You might not see some of the icons, unless you are signed in as the Admin of the forum; mainly options like "Edit Forum"; "Delete" or "Lock Forum". But, if you do see the icons and you're not the Admin and try to use the tools, the forum might pop-up a window requesting for the Admin's info, password etc. Sorry, I've been an Admin for so many years, I've forgotten what a regular member's view looks like?
Please post your forum's URL, however, it if requires registration I won't be able to see it.

RUlmer, thanks for the above post. I went to the pencil, edit forum properties, and I see a list of choices.Screensize, Category, Polls Permission: Default Days, Increase Post Count, Subject, Moderators, and Subscription. There is no choice to Authorize as described above. Where exactly can you find it. |

Noah, I'm guessing you failed to use the scroll bar and only saw the upper area of the options available. What you're looking for is towards the bottom. Don't forget to click "Post Changes", or any changes made will not stick. Below is a snapshot, an example of what you're looking for:

On our board, there isn't the Authorize choice. The other choices are there. Where did you click to find this dialog? Please take a screen shot pointing oto where you found this dialog.
Thanks for the help. |
