Only Patrick may be able to answer your question more correctly, but I'll add my opinion.
As both a webmaster and a forum Admin for years, I don't ever remember having to go through the process that is outlined on that web page. It may be necessary for an individual to have to allow a Pop Up in order for the viewer to go to the forum's registration page from the web page, but whether or not that is a problem caused or related to any certain virus program's setting, or not, I can't say for sure.
In other words, I don't know that Norton is going to be the only virus program, or if Internet Explorer 6's setting are the cause of someone having trouble registering on your forum. I used Internet Explorer 6 years ago, and around that time was an Admin of one of ForunmCo's Forums. I don't remember such problems as ever being an issue for new members to be able to join the forum.
As a side note; I do remember Norton Virus causing a major problem, that was not completely repairable. I had to totally reformat the hard drive, which erased years of work on the computer due to the conflicts Norton's program caused. Later, I bought another new computer. But, all my computer problems at that time started with the Norton Virus program. This doesn't have anything to do with your question, except to point out different virus programs can setup different situations on different computer's operating systems.
As a suggestion, your webmaster might consider simply changing the web page to read so it simply indicates a person may have to enable their pop up option, allowing pop ups one time, in order to allow them to go to your forum's registration page. Then the viewer may wish to reset the pop up option back to "Blocked", after they have registered. Any further problems could be provided by the web page providing them with an email address for requesting additional help in registering.
All Admins know, there is nothing anymore annoying than a wanted-member not being able to become one. What the page says may still be correct, but if it is not needed, then as an Admin or web master I personally wouldn't want the responsibility of telling someone to change some setting within their virus program. |
