Hello all!

Yes, sorry, "the dreaded topic", that damned new version! I've been gleaning scraps of info from various threads, and I think this is pretty much where things are:

New Version allows Polling
New Versoin allows 'Sticky' topics
New Version allows/mandates Archiving of topics beyond a certain age
New Version allows PMing
New Version allows registration to be required before Viewing
New Version no longer allows Announcements
Morgana's Observatory is the only forum currently using the New Version (and looks good, I like!)

Does all that sound about right? I feel a little in the dark - I gather that the upgrade isn't going well, or is going very slowly, or something, but I don't know anything definitive, so it's difficult to make informed decisions for my site (do I keep waiting? try a different host that already has the features I want? do I even really need a message board at all? etc.)

Inertia exerts a strong influence over me - my ForumCo boards as they are work fine, I'm already used to paying the monthly charge, so why contemplate the evil that is Change? However, I can also be borderline obsessive-compulsive, so every time I think of a fun poll that I can't yet create, or notice that threads I'd prefer to keep 'sticky' at the top keep sliding down, it just irks me, particularly since I'm not quite sure where things stand. Ambiguity is my nemesis!

So I was just wondering - could I maybe get a sense of how things are going with the new version of the boards? (If this is already out there somewhere and I missed it, feel free to just post the link and tell me to shut the hell up )

Thanks!

The two versions are very different so the migration was never going to be easy. It also needs to be converted to CSS.

I know that if I upgraded every forum to the new version, I would have as many complaints as I have now but having said that, it is my intention to get there eventually.

One other reason for the slowness to upgrade (apart from the fact that I'm constantly having to deal with billing issues) is that the old version works very well and is without any known bugs (at least no major ones I know of) and they're pretty fast. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

To be realistic, I think it may be better to add features to the current version.

Hi Padraic,
Is it possible to add Sticky and polls to the current version? That would work for me. You must be logged in to see this link.

Adding Stickys and Polls would be enough for me as well - possible? Likely?
