The only slowness should be when a backup is being performed, though it could be a million other things not to do with ForumCo. About 80GB of data is backed up daily so that we can restore things in case of a disaster.

I always need to know two things if you experience slowness.

1. What time did the problem occur
2. I need a traceroute to the forum i.e. demo.forumco.com

This is a free traceroute application thats simple to use - You must be logged in to see this link.

The problem I am seeing is the "downloading symble" in IE or Foxfire keep spinning after the down load seems to be done. It is is the forum and the browser are not completing the last handshake to verify a down load. One comment todays was it took over 15 minutes for the "download process" to complete and the print option start it's printing.
I hope this helps.

I'm doing a bit of work at the moment so things might be a little slow for the next few hours.

I have not had contact with RBS but the forum still seems a bit slow to me and a few members have contacted me about it. This ForumCo Support Forum seems a bit slow to me as well. Not horrible mind you but a slower than usual.

On our forum there are a ton of subscriptions. I go to that area and cannot tell if they are even attached to topics anymore. I would clean them up if I knew I was not deleting a wanted subscription. I know in the past that subscriptions caused some problems, can this be affecting the forum now?

Still looking for Alaska photos. Hope you are well.

Lady RV

I discovered a problem with the firewall on the database server which was easy to fix. Since then its been perfect for me. You main page loads in 1.25 seconds for me which is good considering the size of it. All the pages of the support forum load in less than half a second for me also.

Do you know how to do a traceroute ?

Also, subscriptions used to cause a problem if there were lots but I changed the way email is sent so that if someone posts a topic or reply the subscription emails generated (sometimes hundreds) enter a queue without delaying the post.asp page.

Lady RV, asked me to update on my comment. The hung download symble is no longer there. Not being IT technical I would guess your firewall fix took care of that. I am off the road for a few more days and will watch the load speed closer from my location in Goshen, IN.
Again Padraic, thanks for all you do.

That trace looks ok. The timeouts at the end are because of our firewall blocks certain packets and are nothing to worry about.

I'm going to see if I can add a diagnotic page to the forum that will automatically generate data I need to diagnose a problem.

Yes, since it has been brought to my attention the form loading is slow. The hung loading ICON is gone but it took about 7 seconds for this page to load up. Thanks for you help again.

I presume a Verizon Air card is a modem which works off GSM cell phones ?

At the bottom left of the page where is says "This page was generated in x.x seconds." does it say

This page was generated in 7.3 seconds or

This page was generated in 0.3 seconds ?

If it says 7.3 seconds its our fault. If it says 0.3 seconds but takes 7.3 seconds to get to you its someone elses fault. If it persists, keep posting info. Its the only way I can get to the bottom of it. I haven't had the problem here or at any other forum (including Montana) since I fixed the firewall issue.

Thank you Padraic, I am very happy you two technically savvy guys can discuss this because I'm pretty much in the dark. I am using a Verizon Air Card as well. The trials of being on the road.
