While checking on Active Users I found the following.

What does it mean when a member is in an invalid location?

ON EDIT: Sorry for the earlier huge picture.

I think it means a location such as one of these, the person may be looking at, or in “FAQs”; Registering, Editing their profile; Using the forum’s search; etc.
Any place not set up as a “Valid” location, per the forum’s locating and reporting of where the person is at, per the “Active User’s” location report. It knows the person is there, but reports their location as being an "Invalid Location".
For example, I’ve never seen a report that said someone was in “Search” or Editing Profile, etc.
I could be wrong, but I think these types of locations get reported as an “Invalid Location”.

I have seen where members are editing profiles or viewing someone else's profile. I have seen "Registering" and also "FAQs" as well. I have not seen the "Search" come up but have clicked on the links and found threads where the search words were highlighted. I have seen Guests in invalid locations before but not Member. Since Guests are not able to view most of our forum, I assumed that was the reason for the "Invalid Location." Now I am not so sure what it means.

I often find Guests in threads on Archived Forums. Are the Archived Topics not protected by the same features set in the individual forum's set ups?

My guess is that they tried to do something that they didnt have authorization to, like if you have locked forums, or, if they went to post a thread and didn't put a topic or a message in?

They are protected the same way.

Thanks for the information Padraic. However what does the invalid location mean? Well, of course I know it means they were trying to go where they shouldn't, but how would one find a way into that. Under my regular membership, I cannot see links to private areas of the forum, or even reference to them. So how does a member get to an invalid location

I'll have to look up the code to see when exactly it applies.
