Hi, I was just wondering if it is possible to demote a specific members rank/set a special rank of a single member, I ask because a member of our forums has done something, and we would like to demote his rank or something.
if not this would be a pretty nifty feature for the future

Thanks in Advance

Isn't the rank linked to the number of posts any member has made? Could you therefore not just adjust their total post count?

I say this because we have a member who somehow has got it into his head that he is above/below/beyond the rules. He will not respond to requests to desist by email and will ignore hints on the forum. But when I reduced his post count to zero he was soon on that email

As admin you can edit a poster's profile. Go to members list, locate the member and click on the little edit icon (the pencil) You will be asked to confirm that you can access it by logging in as admin and you will get access to the profile ... just alter the post numbers and then confirm edit and exit ... It may be an idea to keep a record of the number of posts they have so you can later on go back and alter it again.

Why not just tell the member causing a problem to follow the rules or they be banned from the site for a week. You can lock a member out and you have their IP info.

'Cause this way is much more fun

No, serious infractions do bring about a ban. First one is two days ... a repeat offence a week and third time you are out for good. But it all depends on the kind of site you run. We are a relatively small forum. Most of us have been posting together for between 4-6 years. We are refugees from another forum that went to the wall. We've all 'known' this poster for years and most of us actually manage quite well with him. It is just the occasional new-comer - and we do have some of those as well - that needs a bit of help coming to terms with our resident 'Aunt Cora' (shades of Agatha Christie here ) He has a tendency to try and hone his milk teeth then.

You could change their title under their name to something jokingly painful for them to deal with. Then change it back after a week. Just go into members edit their profile where it says title.

I'm curious to what you plan on doing to this person.

well, they were an elite on my forum (+3000 posts, highest member rank) but they basically were scamming people in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (ya were are gaming site:)) and we did some investigating on this (undercover) and found that they were using hacks to scam people, so I'm demoting them back down to a Rook(rookie, second lowest rant)

You can edit any member and give them a title all of their own or even decrease their post count.....
