You shouldn't be getting it any more. I was running a rather large job on the database server for the last few days but that has now finished.

If it happens again, post the full error here.

BTW. The most common cause of delays when posting is having too many users subscribed to your board / topic. Sometimes when a post is replied to the forum will have to send out 50 or more emails. As you can imagine this doesn't happen in a few milliseconds. On htis board it can take 6 or 7 seconds to post a reply. I am looking into how this can be speeded up.

What about the time out problem with registration Padraic?

Sorry, I really should learn to look before I leap. Thank you Padraic, it seems to be working fine now.

When you have a moment to spare, could you please see why no emails are going out for subscribed topics? As far as I know no one, apart from myself has subscribed to the board and I need to know when posts are being made. Thank you.

I need your forum url.

Hello Admin, yes ... I had followed the tutorial and everything was working fine for a long time, then we had a couple of days or more where it wasn't working at all. It started up again and then, just as suddenly, it stopped again.

I had posted about it You must be logged in to see this link. but here is my forum url again:

I still cannot post a reply. It gives me the timeout error. I can post a new topic but no reply to a topic.

The very least I need is your forum url.

Quick reply or normal reply?

A link to the topic you were trying to reply to would also be helpful.

Hi Padraic

Myself and all my forum members are receiving this error using both quick reply and normal reply mode:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e31'

Timeout expired

/post_info.asp, line 1223

The only way we can post is by creating a new thread, but none of us can reply to any of the current threads.

I've turned off subscriptions and that hasn't helped. The archive function also rarely works now, even though I keep trying at regular intervals and I also delete any huge threads in case they cause problems while archiving.

My forum is at You must be logged in to see this link.

Thanks for your help.

interesting, deren, because we can now reply to threads on our board, but cannot start new ones easily, if at all.
