Just wondering...Is thinking about making a back-up forum, because this seems to becoming a regular thing. Any info would be great. -Phantom-

I would recommend a backup forum as it very easily could be a few days before free forums are back up.

Would it kill you to warn people first? Quick e-mail just letting people know?

I kinda think if Padraic COULD do that, he would! I believe getting the forums back up needs to be his first priority - especially the paid for forums. This is not meant to anger anyone, but just stating fact.....

There was no opportunity to. I watched the database server for an hour, just sitting in front of the screen to see what happens to it before it goes down. It just buckles under the load so the only thing I could do was turn off the free forums.

I need to reduce the stress on the server drastically before I can return them. This can be done in a few ways. Turn off search & active topics and prune all posts over 30 days & unused member accounts. Or possibly upgrading all forums to this version without some of the features your used to like announcements and then archive topics older than 30 days.

I'm also looking into more powerful servers.

Old forums don't really affect it. What does is searching through thousands of posts / members of active forums.

Can I just clarify that this is for free forums only & those of us who pay will not have any threads deleted no matter how old they are?

Thanks

Sheila

Correct. Archiving may be introduced after a discussion about it.

My forum is a fairly new paid forum and so far we've seen alot of down time. I take it this is just a temperary issue and not a common accurance? We rely heavily on the forums to carry out business so down time kills us. I understand that there will be problems from time to time. Just looking for alittle reassurance.
