We've never had a week like this before. In over two years the only real downtime was when a Cable & Wireless guy cut a cable by accident and fried some equipment where our server is hosted. There was about 24-48 hours downtime (can't remember exactly).
This time its a problem with the database server (a bug I think). Microsoft Tech Support in the UK is looking into it as we speak.
The main thing is that the databases survive the crisis. They can always be moved to another database server if the problem cannot be fixed on the current one.
We are just a collection of random humans, but if anyone else is like me, my forumco forum is the first place I check when I sign on. It is really a community. We are bereft...there is a big hole in my online life without my beloved forum and I know pretty much everyone else affected feels the same way.
I like forumco because it is clean and easy to configure. I love the short URL too...almost no one offers that. And maybe it's just me, but I like it that it is hosted in Ireland.
GOOD LUCK to you Padraic and ALL who are working on the problem. I'm sure you'll get it fixed and we'll be back better than ever. Better safe than sorry.
Be assured that there will be worldwide rejoicing when the forums come back. Listen carefully then and you'll be able to hear us hollering: "Hoo rah"!
An update. At present I can access the start page of the set of forums that I frequent (i.e. Morgana's), but cannot access any specific forums within it. Browser just hangs. Ongoing maintenance work, I presume(?)
My last attempt ended up with browser message:
"Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (PreLoginHandshake()).]General network error. Check your network documentation. /morgana/inc_header.asp, line 114"
