For the future, perhaps you could keep an up to date email list on another machine & if there is a problem that lasts longer than, say, an hour, you could email us all together & let us know what is going on.
That way we can inform our members (& we won't get lots of emails) and you can avoid answering those hundreds of emails you received too.

quote: I received all the emails, hundreds of them. I decided that working on getting the forums back up was the priority and chose not to answer the emails. I intend to answer the emails I received over the weekend with (hopefully) an explanation of what happened.
If you see any problems with your forums since they came back up, let me know by replying here. Padraic
Thanks for the info, Padraic. When you didn't answer my email in your usual timely fashion, I became concerned. As noted above, I also couldn't access the forumco support page. When I did, I didn't see any announcement about server problems.
Current Problems: 1. Forum is currently inaccessible 2. From 11/18-11/20, I received 5 "mail returned" notices. The "returned" email was to a former member. I NEVER SENT THOSE EMAILS! 3. Email notifications of private messages have been sporadic or delayed by days or not at all. 4. On 11/17, a new member attempting to register never received a confirmation email and emailed me to ask about it. I received the confirmation email as "undelivered mail". This has never happened before.
And... 5. Today I received the following notification: "Thank you for shopping with ForumCo. Your payment has been processed.. Your payment... at 23 Nov 2002 01:45:46 GMT" Padraic, over a month ago I specifically asked you when I would need to renew my paid forum. You replied that I would be sent a notification. I never received any notification of renewal.
I am incredibly disconcerted that the account renewed automatically without notification nor my authorization!!
My forum members love forumco and the support over this past year has been exceptional and always timely. Except for recent events, downtime has been minimal, thus I had every intention of renewing my account. However, it is more than a matter of simple courtesy to inform me of impending renewal so that, like most people, I can budget for the expenditure, insure the funds are available, etc.
Finally, where can I find a listing of the types of proposed upgrades?
Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

1. This is due to ongoing server problems. 2. Do you know what type of email? e.g. forgot password, pm notification ,etc. I guess they were bounced to you as the forum owner. 3. The mail server is maintained by our host. I always receive email virtually straight away (replies to posts, etc.). The problem could be the mail server but it could be many things. Any more info?
4. This was because the entered their email address incorrectly.
5. Thats is standard practice. When you sign up for our monthly or yearly service you are automatically billed every month/year. You have the ability through your WorldPay account (which you got when you signed up) to cancel at any time, keep track of payments, payment dates and other utilities.
If of course you didn't want to continue with our service I would refund the balance accordingly (depending on any extra costs incurred by us). |

Am I the only person who doesn't remember their anniversary date?

| I love the forum - as do all the members - and you have always been exceptionally helpful, courteous and responsive. I never once implied that I didn't want to continue with it or with forumco. My apologies to you if my concerns about the renewal process offended you in some way. |

No offence here. I just wanted to be sure that you knew that I would refund it if you didn't want to continue.
The billing is handled almost automatically. Cancels and failures make up most of my work there while renewals are done without me ever having to do anything. |
