Hi, I started a new forum here this morning, and wondered if you can set my mind at rest about server space and bandwidth limits.
I made a free forum to post stories in, and I wondered if there is a limit to how much space we get, how many members we can have, or how many posts we can make?
Oh, and does my user name have to be the same as the site name? Or can one of them be changed?
PS, had GREAT fun playing with the Admin area - it is very user friendly - looking forward to going home so I can continue setting it up!

There are no bandwidth or member limits as long as the forum doesn't consume all of our resources. It happened once just after 9/11 and we temporarily suspended the forum. The forum is still going stong today.
To use a different username you would have to register with a different username and post under that account. |

Thanks, Padraic.
Is there any way that the Admin of a forum can decide whether or not to accept new registrations? Some forums make it so that when someone registers, they don't get in unless the Admin makes them live. As far as I can see here, anyone could join my forum? |

Goto the admin area > Main Forum Configuration and then set "Require Registration" to on.
Then goto the admin Area > E-mail Server Configuration and set "Restrict Registration" to on.
No one will be able to get into your forum unless they are registered and new registrations will have to be approved by you. |

WOW that was quick!! Thanks! I saw the e-mail server config, but never went into it <embarassed smile>
Anyway, the settings I now have in there are:
Select E-mail Component: CDOSYS (IIS 5/5.1/6) E-mail Mode: On: E-mail Server Address: mail.forumco.com Administrator E-mail Address: my own e-mail address is here Require Unique E-mail: On: E-mail Validation: On: Restrict Registration: On: Require Logon for sending Mail: On:
Does that look okay? I wasn't sure about the CDOSYS (IIS 5/5.1/6) and the mail.forumco.com, the help says:
quote: If you don't have an SMTP server of any type, you will want to turn this feature off. If you do have an SMTP (mail) server, however, then also select the type of server you have from the dropdown menu. If you are using CDONTS as a mail server type, you do not need to fill in this field
So I am not sure if I should change them, or if what I listed is okay... |

YAY, that worked!! Thanks, Padraic.
Next question: Is there any way to set up user groups, so some people can see one part, some can see another, and some can see both? |
