Hi,

I've recently setup a Forum using Forum.Co and I'm finding that some of the Users on my forum can register and start using the Forum without me having to do anything whilst at other times when I login to my Admin userid I find that I have some members in the 'members pending' section to which I then have to authenticate them.

Why can some users register and use the Forum straight away whilst others need to be 'authenticated' ?

Cheers for any advice on this.

Brian

It could be because of a few reasons.

1. They never received the confirmation email because they entered the wrong email address.
2. The did receive the confirmation but they deleted it or it was deleted by a spam filter.
3. They did receive the email but chose not to activate their forum account.

You can activate the account for them if you wish or you could turn "Restrict Registration" to off.

My members are getting a message telling them that their activation key isn't working! It's not a big problem I just started activating them with the key instead of clicking accept but that is what is happening to some of my members!

Also it seems to take a long time to get the email that I have a new member.

Our mail server is always up and under no stress whatsoever. Mail may not be delivered for a variety of reasons including some of the ones I have included above.

They usually get the error that their activation key isn't working if you have already activated the account.

Email is usually sent immediately from our server. At the most it should take a few seconds. If the destination mail server is bogged down it may not be able to accept it straight away so our mail server tries again up to ten times. If its not accepted by then its discarded.

Thanks Padraic for answering my earlier question in this thread. At least I now understand why it can happen.

Cheers,

Brian
