Okay. The main server would make sense then.
I don't know. They really do look unaffected by it all then again, as you were getting at, looks can be deceiving and that they can.
I really have no clue what the problem is, though, as you said, it can be a multitude of things contributing to it.
I just think it's a little freaky it's been going on now for 4 days ina row and at the same time each day. |

As far as I know, no problems and we're already 10 minutes into when things would typically go haywire. |

Actually, one of my memebrs was typing a long post and claims the server went down on her and she lost the post. |

That would make sense then. I was a bit worried things were messing up again. |

It is fixed. It turned out to be relatively simple, just hard to find. It was the fact that it happened at the same time every night (or morning depending on your timezone) that finally helped me figure it out. I trawled through 186,000 lines of the log files and saw a spider (web robot) making 4000 requests per second (yes per second) at the same time every morning. The spider is on the same network as us which is why it was able to do it (another customer of our host). I believe it was unintentional but it still acted like a denial of service attack. Once I figured that out I was able to block it. |

Because of the new server change this week I have to run the backups manually. They didn't happen automatically last night so users will see a slight slowdown (not much) over today and tomorrow. Apart from that, everything should be running smoothly. |

UGH! A spider, huh? Good thing you managed to block it to keep it from happening again. |
