Its to prevent people from viewing the results before you vote (as in any election).
"When you press the "Vote Results" button, it logs it as an anonymous vote. It's like an empty vote. It is not counted. This prevents users from seeing the poll results before they vote. But still allows them to view the results, even if they don't want to participate in the poll."
The user has voided their chance to vote. It does say "Anonymous vote" beside the view results button but maybe I will change that text to make it a little clearer.
You can reset the poll if you want to start again.
