I was wondering how we could keep our forums public for reading purposes, but for posting purposes require registration to be done by the admins? We have so many duplicate or even triplicate registrations for the same member with different user names as they are often not computer savvy enough to know how to complete the process correctly. If they are able to register then they can't seem to get the passwords or user name to work when they try to log on.
Regarding passwords that are assigned at the beginning, is there a way to make that one or a few standard passwords? I know that is most likely a far out question with a big negatory as the response.
For the Format Mode is there a way to make that standard as prompt, instead of basic or help?
I now it's the Holiday season and everyone is busy as heck, so I appreciate your time on all these questions. I also read where you were ill and know how back up one can get when they're out of commission for a while. I sure hope your feeling better?

Sorry about the delay.
If users are having problems loggin in with the passwords assigned to them, an admin may edit their password (on the members page) or even do the "Forgot password" feature for them.
What I must do in the New Year is put a link to a page with all the common logging in problems on the page where login is denied on all forums so that users may be able to solve the problem themselves.
As there are numerous factors that can contribute to a login not working, e.g. cookies not enabled, privacy setings (IE 6), etc. feel free to refer any of your users to me by email.
>For the Format Mode is there a way to make that standard as prompt, instead of basic or help? Not at the moment.
May I suggest that you make an announcement on your forum entitled "Beginners" or "New users" and include all the relevant info that you think they should know regarding logging in, forum rules, etc. |

Padraic,
Thank you for the information on logging in and passwords. Your suggestion to make a "Beginners" or "New Users" is a good one and we'll implement that.
What about the forum being private? All of them but able to read them? I know I have visited other ForumCo forums and been told I had to be logged in and I belong to other forums where a membership has to be approved and then is created by the Admins?
Have a Happy New Year! |

We've been busy discussing and gathering together a FAQ sheet for our users to hopefully avoid some of the problems they're experiencing. Most of them are usually because they are rather new users to computers. We would still like to make all registrations go through the admins so that we ourselves would do their registrations for them. Is this possible? Or are we beating a dead horse?
Users are also asking if there is a way to get the private message alerts at the top of the forum instead of the bottom? I didn't think there would be, but hey it doesn't hurt to ask, right?
I read you weren't feeling well Padraic, hope you're feeling all better now.

I was wondering if you sent the e-mail and I didn't get it? We have a large influx of new members coming and would like to be able to control the process. Thanks again.

Hi Padraic,
Wondered how it was going? Have you been able to catch up?
One more question that the members are requesting on the Montana Owner's Club Forum is that the Private Message alert be put up at the top of the page. Is this possible?
Hope all is going well and we hear from you soon.
Take care, Lady RV |

Another question is the limited number of characters in the signature. I believe it is 256 including spaces. Is there anyway that number could be increased? I know we have a lot of questions here and requests. We are just trying to keep our membership happy and the forum a fun place to be.
Thanks again for all the help you've given us in the past and I hope to hear from you soon.

I can put the Private Messages link at the top of the page for you but it may be overwritten if changes are made to that page in the future. The field in the database that holds the sig is set at 256, I'm not sure whether its because of the field type or just set at that size. I would be reluctant to change it.
I will eventually get around to sending you an email about your members. |

Padraic,
Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing from you. If you can put the Private Message link on the top, that would be great. quote: may be overwritten if changes are made to that page in the future.
Do you mean if I change any of the features such as the various icons, fonts, colors or add a new forum in the control panel?
Again thank you, Lady RV |
