Wondering about the thoughts you had on member registration and hoping you'll be sending me the e-mail soon? We are having some trolls pop up here and there, along with people joining just to have porn links in their profiles.
Is there a way to ban an IP address or an e-mail address in the control panel I'm missing? If a member doesn't post is there a way to find out their IP address?
No, there isn't a way to ban an IP Address or an e-mail address. But, if a person registers with a specific e-mail address and you lock that account, then that e-mail address is effectively banned (can't be used again).
The version of the forum that Padraic is using for user forums doesn't have the section that displays the IP address (both the one they used when they signed up and the one they had when they last posted) of a user on the Modify Profile screen. This is a feature in a newer version of the forum.
Richard thank you for the reply. I suspected as much. I moderate on another discussion forum by infopop where our administrator can ban IP addresses or e-mail addresses. So I was just hoping.
We have very little problem with these trolls, but occasionally they do pop up and the one seems to be very persistent. I did as you suggested and locked his membership and cleared his profile of all the objectionable language.
I can get an IP address if a member has posted.
I still do need to hear from Padraic regarding the procedure for having the Admins do the registration of our members. I realize he's extremely busy but this request/thread was started in the middle of December and our membership is growing by leaps and bounds daily.
I'd also like to know if there is a way for the default upon registration can be set for our forum to have e-mail displayed instead of it not being displayed. Many of our members are not very computer literate and they haven't a clue as how to make any of the bells and whistle work.
Again thank you to each of you for all your hard work. It's greatly appreciated. We love our forum and are very please with ForumCo.
