Pop ups I can deal with, but the latest ads are too much, they are resetting my member's browser's home page to theirs. The complaints are warranted, this practice is flat out wrong! Are you aware of this?

No. I'm but I am now.

Where is your board? Do you have an example of the popup?

The main site is passthison.com

Maybe it's just me? As I don't see any complaints from members here.

Thanks,

I viewed a few of them and got it to change my homepage. The popup company know about it since I last emailed them and from their board - You must be logged in to see this link.

They are trying to have it removed.

Its not actually a security risk.

What I think they are doing is......

They put a up a popup page with a graphic (that says press enter) that takes up the whole screen, then move focus to a yes/no box that asks you do you want to set your homepage to their page. You cannot see this box because it is obstructed by the page taking up your screen asking you to press enter. When you do you press enter you are effectively clicking yes on the yes/no box and thus setting your start page to theirs.

In the meantime you could try adding You must be logged in to see this link. to your restricted sites in Internet Explorer (it won't stop the popups but it might help).

In Internet Explorer 5.5
Click Tools >> Internet Options >> Security (at the top)
Click the Red Circle that says "Restricted Sites"
Click Sites (beneath and to the right).
Enter You must be logged in to see this link. and click add.
Press Ok twice.

It should now block all requests for that domain.

Let me know if it works.

Thank you for the advice, I've adjusted my settings and passed this info to my members.

Question, is this happening just to me? I've done a search in the archives and found no other topics on this matter.

Regards,

bune

Maybe other users are using ALT-F4 or CTRL-W to close the windows.
Haven't tried it but it should work.

I had the same thing happen to me using kazaa. When I clicked on the "traffic" button a window flashed on the screen; when I started Internet Explorer next my homepage was set to the passthison beast. There must be a program or script doing this which could be removed.
