Is the "search" function broken? I have been trying to use the Search function in the Montana Owners Club forum You must be logged in to see this link. with little success. The function only seems to find the search words in topics that are over three years old (2010 - 2009).

For example there are some recent topics on stereo systems. Keywords such as HDMI and Samsung are not found for a period of the last year. Yet, the keyword HDMI occurs frequently in the following recent posts:

The keyword Samsung occurs in these recent posts:

It is clear the Search function is not finding all the posts containing the search words. The Search function is key to finding answers to member's questions. Without it, our huge history repository is unusable.

Is this a problem that can be fixed?

Your forum uses full text indexing to build the search index. The indexes were not being updated for some reason. I manually deleted the indexes and started population. I don't know how long it will take to populate the whole index.

The archive index is built once a month on the 18th. The main search index is built once daily. This means that in the case of an archived topic it could take up to a month to show in the archive. A normal topic can take up to 24 hours to show in a search. Both are built at 6am.

Thank you very much!!!! Hopefully the indexing won't take too long to catch up. I assume the daily indexing at 6:00 AM (EDT??) only looks at new posts? If the Archive index is only dome monthly I hope the rebuild will be done soon.

Can you create a test topic with "hdmi" in the text, then wait 24 hours and see if it's indexed?

I will create some test topics with unique keywords (too many HDMI discussions going on) to check the indexing.

Well this is confusing! I created a topic You must be logged in to see this link. using a concatenation of the Day and the Date. Apparently the software doesn't index numbers as the post never appeared when I Searched. So I looked for other possible posts which would indicate "Indexing" is occurring.

Every night, there is a posting announcing the new members for that day You must be logged in to see this link. The canned text in these announcements use the word "bashful". Not a term commonly used in RVing. So I Searched for "bashful" and got hits for all the days up to 3/17/2013. But nothing since. You wrote that the Indexing was restarted on 3/18. Perhaps the Indexing hasn't worked since?

But no, Indexing seems to be working for other posts. This morning a new post was made mentioning the name Aram. An unusual name for sure. Searching for "Aram" finds the new posting You must be logged in to see this link.

In another case, there is a new posting today entitled "Battery Guidance" You must be logged in to see this link. Searching on either "battery" or "guidance" or even "battery guidance" doesn't find this post. Yet the author signed their post with their name "Marian" and a Search on "Marian" finds the posting.

It as though the Indexing is a hit and miss process which defies logic. Any idea why these anomalies occur?

A full population of the index needs to be done every morning. At the moment it is tracking changes automatically and reorganising the index. I'll let you know when it is configured correctly.

I have made a change to the way Change Tracking is calculated on the full text indexes. See if it makes a difference over the next few days.

FYI, the search index alone is about 250 MB.

Well I waited a few days and reran my tests. It appears the Search Index is MUCH improved. I was unable to find a keyword which wasn't indexed. Thanks a lot for correcting this!!
