There will be some slowness over the next two weeks while I perform maintenance on the database server. When I'm finished doing maintenance I plan to upgrade it.
ForumCo has been in operation for 10 years now and has amassed 92GB of data. In some cases there are forums with over 10 years of posts that no-one reads. Because there is so much data it is slowing down the following;
1. Searching 2. The main forum page 2. forum.asp 3. topic.asp 4. Backups
I would prefer not to delete anything but it looks like it is now unavoidable.
I am considering implementing the following policy;
1. Archiving everything over 3 months old 2. Deleting everything over 1 year old
A forum with posts dating back two years would end up with the following;
Posts between 3 months old and a year old in the archive No posts over a year old
Free forums with no posts in the last year would also be deleted.
