Anyone know what this is about:
Active Guests : 1 Guest #1 Unknown msnbot/1.1 (+You must be logged in to see this link.) 65.55.246.84 login 03/11/2009 12:58:42 2607 Minutes
What is a guest exactly? I was just guessing that it was someone that hasn't registered yet. In "Active users" it shows who is looking at what and often there are one or two guests listed at the bottom. I know you have to register to post, but I think you can view, at least something, before you register, such as, the FAQ's or the instructions on how to register, including setting up your own profile. But, the other day we had four guests at the same time. I've never seen as many, all at once, so I was wondering if there was some kind of attack or automatic search thing going on by some Internet spam thing. I don't know, I'm just guessing.
Notice that two of the IP addresses were very close together.

Then today I noticed the guest today and how long it had been on the forum. Is it anything to be worried about or is it benign?

Most likely, all you are seeing as “Guest” on the report, is the search engines’ spider programs crawling your forum’s pages. I suspect, they are not really “Guest”, but rather the programs crawling and adding info to the search engine’s search results.
After a period of time, when you do a search of the topic’s within your forum, they will show up as links within your search results’ report. But, if your forum requires a person to be logged in, when a person clicks the link found, the information will come up indicating the viewer must be logged in to see the info.
This is not a “Guest” who is viewing your forum, so to speak of.
I hope this information helps to ease your concerns about “Guest” seeing your forum.

| Thanks, that is what I thought was happening. I was wondering why and what something was doing in their 3000 minute plus visit as a guest. It was like the spider crawled up on the front step and died. I was wondering if it wasn't really dead, but just waiting to pounce and/or laying eggs in the wall. |
