I just started my own forum. I can't seem to figure out how to subdivide the forums. Also, is there any way that members can upload their own avatars? I have a free forum, are there any 'skins' for it? How can I change the original part of the forum called 'Testing Forums' to something else?

I am kinda lost here, so try not to get too technical.

DarKK:
I'll work with you a little, and help you catch on to the basics of making your forum as you want it to be.

I'd like for you to copy the URL to your forum in a post, or in a PM to me. So I can get the jest of what your forum is going to be about. This may help me, help you.

New Forum Setup (help)

See the top line of the forum box, where it says; “Forum – Topics – Posts - Last Post – Moderator(s)
(Darkk, I noticed you have changed the word “Forum” on that line to “Gnosis”)
This line is the highest level of your forum.
When you are logged in as Admin you will see three icons to the right side of this line; a Pink Folder, a Note Pad Icon, and a Folder with up and down arrows on it.

Slide your mouse around over the icons to see the functions of each as a small pop-up. The Pink Folder will enable you to create a New Category.
Click the Pink Folder – a widow will open allowing you to name the New Category, and set a couple other properties about it; properties that will also pertain to the/any “Sub-Forums” created later within the category.

The only item you may want to change for now is to change the second line down to “Category Subscriptions Allowed”. This will allow your forum members to subscribe to forums within this New Category that you later will add. (Should you want “Subscriptions” as an option for your members.)
Leave the Moderation line as is.
Click the “Post New Category” Tab

NOTE: You don’t have to add any new categories; you can use the “Pencil” Icon (on the right of the category line) to edit the name of the current category, and its properties; and just break the current category down into different "Sub-forums".

Now you need to add forums to your Category (Categories):

Click the Pink Folder on the right side of the Category line (The one you added) to add a Forum within that Category.
A widow will open, where you will have options to name the New Forum, set the viewing properties (who is allowed to see or access the forum, etc). You’ll also have a “text box” to type a few words explaining something about the Forum. This text will appear directly under the Forum’s name on the main page.

Now, you, and your forum’s members, will break the forum(s) down into different topics. Do that by clicking on the forum of your choice, and choosing the “New Topic” option.
When clicking the “New Topic” option, the widow that opens is much like the “Add New Forum” window; allowing you to name the topic and add text within it.

Remember;
To use the “Pink” folder to add a Category or Forum at a lower level within each of these levels.
To click the “New Topic” option to add different topics within each Sub-Forum (Sub-Forums of a Category, not the “Main-Top-Level” of your forum).

Oh man, I am cookin with Betty Crocker now! Thanx, I can set up my sub forums now.

What is the difference between a 'group' and a catagory? I think I have them mixed up.....
Also, can I change a member's name? He wanted his last letter changed, and I haven't gotten that one done yet. Another asked if they have live chat on FourmCo.'s free forums, or if we can post a link to a free chat.

I don’t know that there is any difference between a “Group” and a “Category”, however most Admins using ForumCo forums, simply refer to “Groups” as “Categories”.

No, you cannot change a member’s username. Just like your own initial username, at the time you joined the forum, cannot be edited. (All other info about the person, including the Aka. “Real” name can be changed.)

No there is not “Live Chat” as you ask about within the forums. But that is not to say two or more cannot simply “PM” each other back and forth while they are logged in. Or, they can just post info back and forth on the forum, as “Replies”. I usually set up a “General Chat” forum within my forums, just for this type of corresponding. It helps to keep the other forums and topics from being buried within daily type chat post made on the forum.

As you advance your forum and its design, check this forum for help by doing a “Search” for your subject, or post a question; I’ll try to find time to address your questions.
