I've been getting these messages lately.
"There is a possible spam poster at The Old School Hip Hop Message Board
Member xxx, with MemberID XXXX, has been trying to send emails to yyy, without having enough XXXXXX to be allowed to do it."
Is this something new?

| Yes. There has been a marked increase in the amount of suspect emails being sent through the forums to members. This new method of prevention has proven to stop most of it. As admin of the board you'll be notified of any suspect emails first. If you get one, just lock the member sending the email. |

I understand.
The problem is I haven't had any that actually were spam yet. They've all been legitimate messages.
Is there something that tells the sender that the message didn't go through? |

You cannot warn the potential spammer or they will try to bypass it. If the email is legitimate you can tell the sender what they need to do.
It has been extremely effective so far and is unlikely to change but if you have any suggestions, let me know. |

I don't have any problems with the policy.
I just didn't want members who are sending legitimate messages to each other to think the other person just wasn't responding when in reality they never got the message.
No big deal.

| No, not at the moment. That would require some database work which I cannot do at the moment. I'm in the middle of moving all the databases at the moment and have to wait until thats finished before I can do anything else. |

Excuse me, but what a stupid policy. I never get spammers on my forum. I do not have time to be trying to forward all these messages that members are sending to each other. It would be one thing if I could just hit "ok to send" or something. But no. I have to go dig up the user's email address, create an email, and paste in the message. It's very cumbersome. It is unacceptable to add a "feature" that is such a major inconvenience for those who do not want the "feature". This forum service is not meeting my needs and I will be looking elsewhere unless you let me turn off that feature.

In fairness the only reason you do not get spam is because we prevent it in a number of ways (most of which you do not see).
This new feature is the only effective way to prevent malicious users from signing up and sending email to your users containing things like advance fee fraud.
I can include the recipients email address so thats its easier for you to forward legitimate email to your users.
I can understand how you feel if you are getting a lot of email. I will try to help if you have suggestions or problems. I can understand if you want to move somewhere else, it is your right to do so even without good reason. |

| I like this feature. It allows me to see if someone is there just to make trouble. It's good to know that Forumco does take measures so other forumco boards are not effected with spammers. |

| All right. I'll try to calm down a little. An email for the intended recipient would go a long way towards aleviating this problem for me. Thanks. |
