I just became aware that members can delete their own posts. It's not supposed to be set that way. When I tried it as a regular member I got a pop up window that said only Admins and Mods could use that function but put in my password and it worked. It's very important that members not be able to delete anything. Can you help me? Fix this?
I also sent you a couple of PMs and E-mail. Hope all is well?

Sorry, I've been meaning to get back to you. A few things have come up recently which I have to give priority to as it comcerns a certain type of abuse of our services which I need to stop from happening.

Users should always be allowed to edit and hence delete their posts. This is to allow them to correct spelling mistakes, etc.
If you're worried about someone posting something inflamatory (for example) and then having other people respond only to have the original poster change or delete the content of the original post, then you should always "Reply with quote". If you (or anyone) is responding to something its always helpful to include a direct quote especially if you're going to rely on it later.

I totally agree. The major forums out there vBulletin, IPB, phpBB, YaBB, and SMF all allow admin the option of keeping their members from deleting their own posts in an effort to cut-down on abuse.
Padraic, I went to the Snitz community forum and found a thread titled You must be logged in to see this link., which then led me to another thread titled You must be logged in to see this link..
Is it possible to install this MOD at ForumCo? I'd like a time limit set of 1 minute after post (3 or 5 minutes at most) for deletion by member.
I don't care about editing for minor things (though I do for major things, especially when it's to re-write a "bad" post to get out of it), but deleting is a HUGE no-no and I firmly believe once you've written something, it's part of history and can't be re-tracted.
I'll pay you generously if you'd install/integrate the Delete Post Time Limit MOD at ForumCo and set it for 1 or 3 minutes once the member has posted it.
Thank you! |

Hi Admin...bumping this up to see if we can change it to not allow deletions?
Also I have sent you many PMs and one more recently that I forwarded to you, which I think you'll want to see!
Take care and thanks for all you do.
