I recently set up a forum but have not been able to get the Email Address and Send Private Mail links on the member profile windows to work. When I click on those links nothing happens. At least one other person in our group has tried clicking on the Send Private Mail link and got a Runtime error message. Can you help? I would really like to get these features working.

The only way I can send private messages now is to click on the envelope icon above an individual's message. This activiates my email program (Outlook) and puts the person's email address in the "To" space.

Here's an addendum to this question. One member successfully used the Send a Private Message feature. I asked her about it and this is what she said:

I am using Microsoft Windows Me (Millennium Edition). When I sent your P.M. the top of my computer said "MSN-Private Message User". When I sign on to the internet, I go through MSN, not the blue E icon, if that makes any difference. MSN is currently updating to 8.0 but I don't think I have upgraded yet. I think I am currently 6.0.

Now I am even more puzzled. I really don't understand this feature. Can you help?

There are Private Messages, Emails and Instant Messaging Software (MSN).

Private messages are messages that users can leave on the board for each other. They have to come to the board to retrieve them.

There is support for some Instant messaging software on this board, like ICQ or Yahoo Instant Messenger. A user clicks the Yahoo IM icon and can send a message directly to that user.

Emails are self explanatory. I sent you an email using the board, and you replied so I'll presume its working for the time being.

Can you in greater detail explain where you came up against problems?

That problem with the Private Message and E-Mail links not working should have been fixed with the replacement of the inc_top_short.asp file.

Richard described the problem perfectly. Do I need the inc_top_short.asp? Or perhaps there's a configuration I don't have right?

You already have it but you'll never see it.

Do you still have the problem?

I just tried using those links again and they do work now. Did you do something to fix the problem? Or is the feature somewhat unstable? I just need to know before I tell visitors that its OK to start using it.

Thanks for this suppport. My most pressing problems have been resolved. I have one more question but will start a new topic for that.

We replaced a file that had some missing code in it. That problem will not come up again.
