Hi everyone Just recently signed up for a board and have found it excellent in comparison to our previous one. However, can't equally help comparing it to a couple of similar ones I'm registered on and wanted to check out some things. 1. Is there a way that moderators can move messages from one forum to another easily? 2. Are you aware that the board/s can't be viewed with certain settings of Norton Internet Security. I had the same problem with MusicMatch who had to actually change their software to sort out this problem (they were able to reproduce it). 3. Is it ever likely that the forum owner could be notified of new members signing up rather than actually having to check in to the board personally to find out? 4. Following on from that is there a facility to screen new members and validate or reject their membership request?
These are only minor things really so not an issue if they can't be resolved for any reason. Brilliant to have this type of setup which isn't easy to do on your own - I tried once before and gave up as it was just to complex.
Any suggestions welcome. Thanks Romayne You must be logged in to see this link.

1. Yes, they just need to edit the topic and choose the forum they want to move it to.
2. Yes, but we (Snitz Forums 2000, I can't speak for ForumCo) aren't changing anything. Norton Internet Security is an inferior product that has chosen to go against Internet Standards. Such as masking the HTTP_REFERER and blocking scripts from running. They need to change their software. Firewalls need to be setup and configured by someone who knows what they are doing, just running a program to install it with the default settings and then expecting everything to work as it did before, is just asking for trouble. I for one don't use any firewalls, don't think they are necessary at all. These companies use scare tactics to sell their inferior software, and the average consumer is suckered into buying it.
3. No, nothing like that is planned.
4. Yes, in the new version (the one that is running on this forum) this is available. |

Thanks Richard - appreciate your input and quick response. Found your views on NIS interesting - I actually was thinking of reinstalling it because the problems have arisen more since I DID start tweaking around with settings in it during the time I'd problems with MM. Is a bit of a waste when I have to keep disabling it anyway to view so many sites, so may well just give up on it.

Hi Padraic Yep - Norton Internet Systems as I have it set up blocks the entire forum from loading at all - not just this site, it's happening with loads of others. I tweaked it every way I could think - took off ad blocking and most other things, setting everything I could find to Permit (really defeating the purpose) but STILL it wouldn't load many site pages, so now find the only solution is just to disable it completely with sites such as this. As I said, MM changed their HTML format somehow and I can now load it perfectly without disabling NIS, but not sure what they did. Suspect it may be something to do with ActiveX, less likely Java. Going to someday uninstall it and reinstall it as I've overtweaked it so much I really doubt I'll ever get it sorted any other way. To my knowledge before my problems with MM most sites loaded okay. Let you know if I EVER work it out!
Thanks Romayne |
