My forum is offline again - we seem to have had access over the weekend for barely a couple of hours. I realise that this must be frustrating for you, Padraic, but I am losing members and momentum on my site. I suppose one of the most disappointing things is that I cannot perceive any sense of urgency about restoring normal service.
Like any establishment which serves as a meeting place, if it closes down for periods, some people just do not return, and I (and I'm sure all the other Message Board Administrators) have worked hard to build our communities, only to feel powerless in the face of these problems.
Please, Padraic, I do understand that you have to prioritise your workload, but it is important to me that I keep my people informed as to the progress and likely date for when the fault is cleared. I need regular updates without having to ask for them. I am trying to be proactive for my forum members. |

The most current news is always on this board. There are numerous threads on the subject.
I'm talking with Microsoft UK right now. Believe me restoring normal service is the only thing I'm concerned with right now.
If we cannot fix the database server I'm going to move the databases to another server which I have prepared. |

We are down and have been all weekend to my knowledge. I get this message quote: The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please try the following:
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Open the You must be logged in to see this link. home page, and then look for links to the information you want. Click the Back button to try another link. Click Search to look for information on the Internet.
HTTP 404 - File not found Internet Explorer
The url to ForumCo page (the one you sign up with) gave me a message and link to come to this Support Forum for announcements. I haven't seen the announcements, but that's like me...not always able to see things right in front of my face.
I've read that there are problems with Microsoft in the UK, is that what's happening?
I need to contact my members. Being a new board I don't want them to think this is going to be the norm.
Thanks Admin/Padraic, I imagine this must be pretty frustrating for you, your work is appreciated.

Microsoft in the UK are helping me get them back up. Microsoft wrote the software we use for the database server.
I imagine the forums will be down until tomorrow but you never know. I'll be working on it continuously. |

My board has also been up and down during the past few weeks and has been down pretty much continuously during this past weekend. I'm sure you have your hands full, Padraic...Good Luck!

I think the worse part of this is, after I learned that it was going to be a while before the free forums went back up I went ahead and paid up.
Then I foolishly emailed my members telling them that the problem had been taken care of. I guess I'll have some explaining to do if the boards really do ever get back online.

They will be back up. At the moment I'm transferring the databases to another server. If the current server cannot be fixed I'll be able to use the one I'm preparing now.
There is a hardware check scheduled for the database server tomorrow.
quote: Currently scheduled for 9 AM EST on November 26, 2002. Estimated down time is .25 hour.
I've spent 17 hours working on it today and more or less the same yesterday.
I'll be issuing refunds when this is all sorted out, my main priority is fixing the problem and ensuring all the forum databases are working. |
