I'm a bit confused how archives work? I can choose whether or not to archive a topic when I lock it, and in admin options I can set up options about when archives take place. What I don't understand is what happens to archived posts? Are they deleted from forums and copied somewhere else? Will users be able to view the archives?

Locking a topic is not the same as archiving one. The only similarity is the lock icon.

If you lock a topic you can unlock it. If you archive a topic you can never un-archive it.

Archived topics are visible in two ways. By searching the archives from the search page or by clicking the "A" icon to the right of each forum.

Look to the right of the main page of this forum. You will see two "A" icons. One of them will bring you here - You must be logged in to see this link.
