Is there any way to change the add link colors which been imbedded into the forums? I think it's an eye-sore having bright blue links all over my forum. Is there anyway to change them back to the old way???

I'm trialling the new system for about 60 days. It is possible to change the colours. I take it you want similar colours to the forum?

Padriac... I was wondering if there any spyware/malware/adware involved with this? Just so I know what to tell the members of my free forum. I know a good while back I had a problem on my forums with Gator, but it seemed to go away. My members are showing annoyance with the new "mouse-over" popups and stuff, and I have to agree with them. It does seem quite annoying. I didn't mind the big banner, or even the 1 or 2 popup windows.

A funny thing is that this new system doesn't work on Macintosh computers. I use one at work, and when my forum members mentioned this problem first, I thought they were crazy. heh.

Anyway... was just wondering about the spyware potential, that's all.

I agree with Sauron I rather have 1-2 pop ups rather than 5-6 or more links..Plus you still get little pop-ups when the ads load, which is a bit annoying.

Sauron I thought I was going crazy aswell thinking it was some spy-ware on my pc computer causing the problem. When I would load the forum up on my Mac nothing would happen..I even made a forum post asking if I was going crazy....

So, I guess one solution would be for everyone on our forums to buy macs...

Admin - Could you please change the link color to match my forum if the ads are going to stay this way.

Thanks

-Phantom-

What I'll do for both of you is swith you to Google ads and see how they do on your forums.
I'm in the middle of fixing a small bug on these forums and I'll post about the spyware later.

The reason I stopped offering free forums three years ago was because it came to the stage where there were about 3000-4000 boards and the revenue from them was a fraction of what it cost to host them. I have recently started to offer free forums again because advertising companies have come on in leaps and bounds since Google reinvented the whole industry.

I came across one advertising company which really suits forum hosting. How it works is this.

You place their code on a forum page which could contain any kind of content.
Their spider visits the page and takes keywords from it and stores them. The next time someone views that page, they receive targetted ads which they are more likely to click, helping to offset the cost of hosting the free forums.

At no point is spyware installed on you or your users computer. Believe me, I checked it out before I used them.

Not good if Mac's are excluded though. Can you give me more details?

Here's my board url Padriac:

You must be logged in to see this link.

Thanks for the help on this and the explanation. I know the forum is free and all, so I really appreciate it. I've used ForumCo now for quite awhile.

Can't really tell you much about the Macintosh issue, except that I'm running OS 9.1 on a PowerPC with IE 5.0. The links showing up on the words at home on my (IBM) PC with IE 5.5, do not show up on the Macintosh at all. I do get the regular 2 popup windows though on the Mac, but the new system your trying doesn't seem to be working on Mac IE browsers. I haven't tried IE 6 on a Mac because I don't have access to that version. Maybe phantom could help more there.

Which Mac OS and Internet Explorer version do you use on the Macintosh phantom?

I'm not sure you should be getting popups. I'll switch you to Google Ads later today.
