Is is possible to make the "Check here to be notified by email whenever someone replies to your topic"-option to be checked by default? It would be great for my forum! Or it is a feature in the new (upcoming) version?

It used to be a long time ago. We received lots of complaints about it due to (very active) members email inboxes filling up with notifications.
Besides, it slows down the forums and mail server.

in the new version, a user can subscribe to the whole board or a number of lower levels.

But wouldn't it be great if the administrator could turn that on and off, especially for "forums beginners" who really needs a reminder to check their threads? They just have to click on the link in their email and they are taken to the discussion.

If they don't want the reminder you could have a direct link in the email which turns off the notify feature...

My 2 cents...

If a large forum decided to turn it on, with each member being notified (without their permission) there would be two consequences.

1. Thousands of SPAM complaints and possible blacklisting of our mail server.
2. The mail server alone would grind things to a halt.

There is a better way to do it, which I am working on.
