is it possible to change a members name colour? I thought about just using the fourum colour code in the profile of a member, But I dunno what they would do

Login into the Admin Options" - click on "Config Active Users".
You will find the option to set the colors for these different members; Admin; Moderators; However, there is no option that I'm aware of for changing the color of "regular" members.

some forums have an optin that you can change a members user name colour, but I believe that its a code that you yourself have to implement.

It would be nice to know the code.
My site is a craft site and I have some loyal regular I'd like to make them stand out to newer members.

It would be easier for you to just make them "Moderators", if the color of their Username is important.

Suggestion:
You could also (do some art work) create “special avatars” for these “loyal”, regular members. Therefore giving them status on your forum.
