I am setting up a forum for our group. We would like to have parts of the forum open to everyone, and parts just open to active members. Is there a way that I can add new members manually, as we do not want to have open registration. The only way to get to the "Members Only" area is through joining the group.

You can complete the Register page for them. They will need to confirm their email address.

You will need to "Restrict registration" in the admin area i.e. you have control over who joins the forum.
