When I login as the admin I am unable to assign mods or admins and am also unable to change category names or add new one.

Nice forum. You already have a moderator set up - You must be logged in to see this link.
and they have been assigned a forum.

To edit a category you just need to click the pencil icon to the right of the page. You should end up here (you will need to be logged in as admin)
