Under “Admin” options, under “Feature Configuration” is the option to turn off the “Bad Word Filter”.
I wouldn't do it, but whatever.

Its fixed now. I will be working on it though to change some of its functionality.

I have turned off the word filter on my forum. It was an experiment initially and I just did not inform the members about it. I found however that most posters tend to filter themselves pretty well. We get the occasional four letter word but nothing as horrendous as what you hear walking down any public road.

I intend to use it to combat link spam. There are spam bots/people that try to post links to their websites in order to get a higher search ranking. I intend to add these websites to the filter so that they are banned on all forums automatically.

When you have done that I'll probably switch it on but only for those sites. I'm assuming you will announce when it is done?

Having said that ... so far we have been very lucky in escaping the notice of bots.

You won't have a choice. Those websites will have to be banned automatically without requiring that forum owners turn on the filter otherwise we will always be a target. I will probably use a replacement link like http://***Link*Spam*** so that you know it was the link spam filter.

I was assuming that as we can select what words to filter that we could elect to filter no words but keep the other filters in. Still, I dare say you know best.

(PS: that wasn't meant in any derogatory manner by the way)

Thinking about it, I will probably just silently filter them i.e. they won't be displayed on the badword filter page but will be filtered.

In order to ban your own words yes.

Spam links will be banned whether you turn the filter on or not.
