You may have did nothing wrong. It is possible that the "SPAM" protection default settings of your new forum prevented the emails from being sent. See ForumCo's policy about this subject.

A member must have made at least 10 post on the forum to send emails, or private messages, to other members. This is to prevent "New" members from signing up and "SPAMMING" all your forum's membership.

Do you mean the authorisation email? The one that finalises your registration?
