As administrator, I would like to change my email address but cannot. On editing the members (myself), I get the message that my email address is in use. Can anyone help?

Thanks for replying. This is interesting - in spite of trying a few times (at another site) to change my profile, I was unable to but when I look up 'Profile' today (from the top bar options) my NEW email address is present.

I went back to what I did before, viz open 'admin options', then 'member search', then 'edit member', I find my OLD address still there. If I try to change this I again receive the message: "There was a problem with the details. E-mail address already in use. Please choose another"

If I go to 'admin options' then 'email list', I find the OLD address.

Now it is possible that I successfully changed my email address some time ago using the 'profile' option from the top bar (I have been trying to notify over 100 sites/people about this change and my memory is poor about all the changes) however it is obviously not the 'master' site as my old addresses still appear in various sites on your forum.

I hope this clarifies some issues. What do I do next? Yes, my site is pholly.forumco.com

More than likely you tried to change the email address before but were unsuccessful.

I still need to know what the new email address is. I assume you are talking about the superadmin account pholly on your board.

I changed your old email address to the new one. Let me know if it doesn't work.

All seems to be in order Padraic. Thanks for your efforts.
I guess I'm still not too sure what to do on another similar occasion. Is your suggestion simply to change the email address found under 'Profile' in the top bar?

What happens is this.

User registers using email address 1.
Sometime later user tries to change email address1 to email address 2.
Confirmation email is sent to email address 2 but never acted upon (or caught by a spam filter).
Both email addresses are now stored on the database waiting for the user to confirm the new email address (email address 1 still being the primary and email address 2 awaiting confirmation).

If the user tries to change the primary email address to email address 2 you get the "Email already in use error".

The same error could also be caused by the user already having an account with the new email address.

You could solve the first problem yourself by changeing their email in their profile to someone@somewhere.com and then asking them to try changing it to email address 2. It should then send out a new confirmation email which they can use to finalise the email address change.

I'll see what I can do about preventing it from happening.
