Will changing the ‘Unique E-mail’ setting requirement to ‘Off’ allow previous members to re-register using the same e-mail address they had on their old membership? Some members who had not logged in over six months (who’s membership’s I removed) now wish to participate and sign up again. I realize their e-mails are still in the database and why they get the ‘E-mail already in use’ message when re-registering. I don’t want to bother your Admins with the removing of old n/a e-mail addresses in each case when it happens.
I think the next time I need to remove the opportunity for nonparticipating members to sign in, I’ll simply use the ‘Modify User Profile’ option and change their password. That way when they try to login they will have to e-mail me to re-new their ability to use the forum. Then I can then give them the password, which they can change by editing their profile after they login. This all sounds like a lot of trouble, but it was done to encourage members to login once in a while. I have (had) some that have not logged in over a year.
Are you saying they would be able to find the new password by using the forgot password feature? If so that would be a small problem in keeping them out temporally, but I think it would still bring to their attention, that they either participate or they will have problems signing in to their account, and that they need to keep it up to date. A 'Use it or lose it.' type of thing.
