If we end up merging two of our websites, will we be able to merge our two forums into one without losing messages from one of the forums?

It would be far from recommended. Although it is possible it would mean weeks of work.

If you wanted to merge jimmyosmond into osmond you would have to give all the topics & replies in jimmyosmond new topic and reply id's in the database. The same would have to be done for the members.
