Visitors to my new forum are asking why they have to refresh so often...they have to reload their browser saying:

"I needed to refresh this page about 5 times as I kept getting a "can't find server" notice"

I have cookies set to Forum and I try to set it to Website but it defaults back to Forum (I dont know if this would even address the "refreshing" problem but I thought I'd throw it in the mix as well)

You are not allowed to change that setting. From the help icon to the right of that feature.

"You can tell your forum to set it's cookie to either the forum, or the base website. You would set it to the forum if you were hosting multiple forums on the same server or the same domain, and they each had different user communities, otherwise you want this feature set to Website and NOT Forum. "

The ForumCo server has had no down time apart from security updates which take 5 to 10 minutes. Thery are not very common and are always posted in the announcements forum. If a user cannot access your forum it is usually because of congestion along his / her path to the server.

The only way to tell is if they do a traceroute to the server.

Whats the url to your forum?

hello...I didn't mean to suggest that my forums were down, just that things seem to be more dificult that they should be...the number of times I must refresh my own browser in order to see changes to a post for example. If I choose to edit my post and preview it for the second time, it appears unchanged until I press F5 and refresh that window.

So users are accessing the forums okay, they just aren't used to refreshing the page every time they want to see changes made. It's not that it's a big deal...clicking refresh is rather easy and not much to complain about...it's just not the norm.

Then its one of two things.

Your browser settings need to be changed so that it check for a new page every time or you're going througha dodgy proxy server and its serving you an old version of the page.

What browser are you using?
