Poll Question:
Which would you rather?
Note: Upgrading now will introduce some new features but will result in some old ones not available (like Announcements). It will take at least a few days if not a week.
I haven't decided what to do yet but I would like opinions on pruning etc.

Ummm.. just a curious question. Will all forum specific settings revert to default with the upgrade?

Hi, is it possible to let us make backups of all our forum's posts before they are deleted? For me personally, the loss of all that history would be tragic. Deleting topics older than 30 days would pretty much wipe out my whole archive of 'beloved' topics. :( :(
I really want to have at least a chance to back it up. Could you maybe disable the search feature and give us a couple of days to copy our sites?

Yeah I'm the same way as dark...People left my forum last time it was pruned, but if it has to be done then it should be done..We can rebuild for the 3rd time!
** I dont care about announcments as long as there is polls and sticky topics with the upgrade....
Those are my thoughts.

I'll try to explain this a simply as I can.
Imagine you have a forum with 1000 topics and 9000 replies. Everytime active topics is viewed, the forum has to pick the most active of 1000 topics and 9,000 replies. Everytime a search is performed the forum searches through 10,000 messages, etc. The least amount of topics and replies being sorted through (or otherwise) the less the server has to do. The new version has archiving which moves the old topics out of "circulation" while keeping them to be viewed whenever they need to be.
The support forums version is the version I will be upgrading to. |

Is excited was hoping the new version would have this option!

I intend to automatically archive all forums every month. Haven't decided on specifics but users will still be able to view the topics while keeping performance at a max.
As far as I know you cannot unarchive topics.
Have a look at the archived topics on this forum to see how it works. Start at the main page or the search page. |

If you archive once a month what happens to topics that are still active? Will they be archived in their own category or go into one category of archiving, or read only?

I meant will all topics/threads be archived once a month or will you be able to keep the topics/threads we have active/new out of the archives?
On topics/threads that are archived, will they go into their same forum/sections? Or will they all be lumped together as arhived/read only, etc? |

I vote FOR the pruning. It would certainly save me time!
Thanks for all your hard work. |
