Hi,
For some reason I am messing this up. I want it that people can subscribe on my forum exactly how it is done here.

OK, I have set the categories and the forums, plus the main board; however, it's still not working like here. What settings do I choose? Each of the three levels have several choices. I'm trying to make it as flexible and specific as possible for the members. I want them to be able to follow a single topic, a particular forum, a certain category, or the whole board.
This seems odd to me:
All Forums
Subscriptions for All Members
Board Level Subscriptions (Subscription level set to Category)
Dave Altman Unsubscribe
When I click on "All Subscriptions" on the main page, that appears even though I didn't set the level to Category, but to full board and I've tried the topic level, but no matter which level I choose in the administrative area, this appears.
OK, I logged on as a normal member and it seems to be working! I read where I wouldn't receive the email notices as the administrator, but I was expecting the icons to show up, even when I was logged on as the administrator, but that wasn't the case. So, my confusion is over, at least, for the mean time. 
The tutorial above helped. I was so close, but that one little step I wasn't doing made my hell for a while.

Did you also set each category to allow subscriptions; and did you set each forum to allow subscriptions?
If you only set the "main board" to allow subscriptions, and did not set the individual categories (as well as each forum) to allow subscriptions, you will not have allowed subscriptions to the individual forums or their topics.
Let me know how it goes.

If you are logged in as a moderator (and possibly an admin) you won't get emails. |

In your “Admin Options”
Do this from the “Feature Configuration”
Set it to “Subscribe to Whole Board”; Then submit that setting. This will:
“Allows you to set the Highest Level of Subscription that can be used on the Forum. You will also need to set the individual level in each of your Categories and Forums”.
Notice the line I underlined above. You will still need to allow each category, within your forum, to allow subscriptions. You can set this to any one of 4 different options; "Category Subscriptions Allowed"; "No subscriptions Allowed"; "Forum Subscriptions Allowed"; or "Topic Subscriptions Allowed".
You do that by editing the category; by clicking on the “Pencil” icon, located to the right of each category, (Not from the “Admin Options”)
Next, check each forum you have (click the pencil icon to see the edit options of the forum). Down close to the bottom of the settings listed you will see “Subscriptions”, make sure that is set to allow subscriptions as well. If it isn’t, change it, and submit that change.
After you set this all up, you’ll see the options to subscribe to each, or all post, made on your forum (forums). Myself, I’d click the icon (located on the far right of each category’s line), and subscribe to each category I wanted to receive email notices on about any new post made. Category Subscriptions Allowed” is the highest level of each category subscription setting. This should cause an email notification to be sent to you each time any posts are made within that category; as long as you have also allowed subscriptions to be allowed within each forum.
The reason I point all this above out, is so that you can understand that one can set the whole board to “Subscriptions Allowed”; but if the lower categories, or the forums, are set to “Do not allow subscriptions”, you won’t be able to subscribe to them.

Is it working? Test it with two accounts on your board (one posting and one receiving email).
