My forum on particular days load ridiculously slow. I have members leaving and complaining about it. What could be the cause of this. I already tried archiving some of the larger areas. I have a lot of computer gurus on there and they say it's the entire set up? What do you think... am I exceeding my page views... how can I remedy this problem?

hmm thats really weird, i have about 21 forums and mine is consistantly fast...how many members do you have and how many members are online on average, that could possibly be a problem

Can you give more info on the problem ? i.e. can your users who are having problems provide traceroutes, screenshots, times & dates of the problem ?

The only times the forums should be a little slower is when a backup is being performed.

This is a link to a third party monitoring service

The forums are monitored every 5 minutes 24 hours a day. You can see that there were no outages for the last three months i.e. 100% uptime. Unfortunately there is no room for improvement there .

There are posts on your forum for the 22nd August. There are no reports of outages on this board as you can see. More than likely it was caused by an outage between the user and our servers. Without a traceroute from the users computer to forumco.com it is impossible to say. The easiest way to do a traceroute is by using HyperTrace from AnalogX (free) http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/htrace.htm

Did any other users report problems?

Yes they have but I can't find the thread in which they were talking about it. It may have been on another forum that they were complaining about this. I have started a thread asking users to fill me in on the details so hopefully they will get back to me on it. Thanks again.

Ok. The more info the better. If you can, ask for a link to the discussion on the other forum. You don't state which timezone the user was using when they reported the problem but I was working on the servers all day from the 20th to the 23rd doing routine maintenance. If there had been any downtime I would have been the first to know.

Unfortunately that doesn't tell me very much. The reason for that error could be anything from internet congestion to a problem with the users firewall. Isn't Safari still in beta ? i.e. not supposed to be relied upon.

A traceroute to anthonygatto.forumco.com should reveal where the problem lies.

There were indexes missing on the topics table in the database of your forum. They should be fixed now.

Dear Padraic,

We are also experiencing very slow response when trying to get into certain topics. Some people are even reporting that they are bumped off after they log in to post. It happens during certain times of day from what they are telling me.

our forum is daysofnoah.forumco.com

i don't have the problem on my end so i can't duplicate their troubles. these are not tech savvy people that would be able to get screenshots. but i will ask them to if they know how.

thank you, for your attention to this matter. many visitors are not posting anymore because of this.
